RUSSIA'S GERMAN COMMUNITY REVIVING. Leonid Krenzler, the
chairman of the German national and cultural community in
Stavropol Krai, told ITAR-TASS on 21 January that
inmigration of ethnic Germans from the North Caucasus and
Central Asia and decreased outmigration to Germany has
swelled the size of Stavropol's German community from
13,000 in 1980 to more than 18,000 now. He said that his
group is seeking to revive an old German settlement there
with funding from both Moscow and Berlin.
