For Immediate Release
PeepCode Screencasts Places a $1,000 Bet on Rubinius
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- December 6, 2006 -- Today PeepCode Screencasts
donated US$1,000 to kickstart the Rubinius Project. Rubinius is a
fast, maintainable, 1.8-compatible Ruby interpreter currently in
active development.
Rubinius has been preceeded by several prototypes over the past year.
Sydney was an attempt to patch the existing Ruby implementation with
features such as native threads and more extensive introspection.
Other prototypes took ideas from early Smalltalk interpreters and
applied those ideas to Ruby. The current implementation is an attempt
to create a Ruby interpreter in Ruby that can translate itself out
into a C interpreter.
Developer Evan Phoenix will be dedicating the month of December to
work on the project before starting other fulltime work in January.
However, development will continue throughout 2007.
Donations can be sent via PayPal to: evan at fallingsnow dot net.
