We want to maintain compatibility with Smalltalk-80. Because of this, the specifications of the compiler and interpreter were mostly left untouched with a few exceptions, such as the bytecode specification, which we simplified. In this regard, most of our specifications pre-existed which helped our analysis of the system. It is expected that the study of the compiler and interpreter will consume the majority of our time.
